Without access to the web, you can not do such wonderful things as keep in instant touch with your family and friends via email and instant messaging, you can't share photos as easily, you can't download music and movies, and it is difficult to keep up with the latest news. After all, the internet often posts breaking news before the TV news channels do.
If you want to make it in the modern world, you need to have internet service in your home.
Choosing a home internet service company can be somewhat challenging if you have never done it before. If you are new to using the web and email at home, you may be tempted to go for something cheap and with a well recognized name, like AOL dial up. While this may have been the gold standard of internet access 10 years ago, it is practically worthless today. You never hear of anyone talking about AOL anymore, and as for dial up, it is practically a dead technology, much like 8 track cassettes and BetaMax VCR tapes.
If you aren't a very patient person with a lot of time on your hands dial up is slow, almost too slow to even read your email, and you get kicked off of it any time your phone rings. It may be cheap, but if you have high speed access available you might want to strongly consider that instead of waiting… waiting… waiting… for your dialup connection to get you where you want to go.
For a few dollars a month more, you can get DSL, cable, or fiber optic internet access and really see what surfing the net is supposed to be like.
Satellite access is faster too, but typically at a higher cost to you.
These new newest methods of connecting mean that your internet service is always on, so all you have to do is click on an icon on your computer to see it. You will find that most everything downloads at lightning speeds, and you will never get kicked off, because your home internet service will have its own dedicated line.
Fast internet service doesn't cost as much as you think, especially if you buy from some of the lesser known discount companies, and it will make your online experience a much nicer and less frustrating one.
